Why does glass wool need to be recycled?

This insulation is made of the smallest glass fibers, bonded to each other with phenol-based glue. It is absolutely safe and does not emit toxins into the atmosphere. However, glass wool does not decompose in the natural environment, therefore, it cannot be thrown on the ground, cannot be dumped.

It is also not recommended to leave glass wool at home or at work: it represents a danger to the health of people around them, especially children. Even with short-term skin contact, sharp microparticles stick into it, causing severe itching and irritation. How is recycled glass wool?

Now there are several ways to recycle this material:

• Landfills. Glass wool is buried in the ground in a specially designated area inaccessible to children, adults and animals.
• Grinding in special installations. The treated particles are sent for recycling. They are used in the construction of roads and the production of bricks, mixing with other components.
• Incineration followed by use as a charge. After combustion, a solid glass residue is formed. It is used in the manufacture of crystal and other materials.
• Recycling plants for reuse. Glass wool fibers are crushed to 0,1 – 100 μm, then sent to the production of a new similar insulation.

Responsibility for improper disposal

There is no specific punishment in this case. Improper disposal of insulation is considered as an administrative offense. Punishment - a penalty for unauthorized dumping and dumping of garbage. This is especially true of common areas.
